Teacher Training in Jersey
Change your future
What is your next career? Inspire the future and become a teacher. We can help you achieve your teacher qualification in Jersey.
Their future, our future, enable your future
Jersey is committed to ensuring the long-term provision of education for our young people that makes us proud as an Island. To achieve this we recognise that the commitment needs to be for the long term which is why we are making significant investment to train more teachers.
Islanders that wish to be our future teachers have three different ways to make this happen. Each route is designed to suit different life points, circumstances and learning styles. If you have a degree and a desire to teach, we have a route to make your desire a reality.
From September 2023 all of the routes available are taken in conjunction with a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) awarded by the University of Sussex. This will enable all successful graduate teachers who completed the programme in July 2024 and beyond to apply for QTS in England as well as JQTS in Jersey.
We recruit for the Jersey Graduate Teacher Training Programme (including the PGCE) each January, to enable locally qualified students to start their training in September.
Application deadline: 16 February 2024

English and Music Teacher, trained in Jersey
Why teach?
I moved to teaching from finance because I wanted to make a difference and have a greater sense of personal fulfilment every day.
Why Jersey?
I was not able to uproot my family and train in the UK so the chance to train here on the Island, and to continue my home life with my three young children, has been an amazing opportunity.
I became aware that English was a shortage subject. With an A Level in that subject on top of my Music degree I have been able to qualify as a teacher in both subjects and upgrade my English teaching knowledge with a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course.
